A new talk of Targeting Mitochondria 2013: Carbon Nanotubes for Mitochondrial Targeting

carbonDuring Targeting Mitochondria 2013, Dr Alessia Battigelli from CNRS Strasbourg, France will talk about Carbon Nanotubes for Mitochondrial Targeting.

According this research:
In the last decade, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) attracted great interest in the biomedical field, due to their ability to enter into cells. The possibility to easily functionalize the surface of this nanomaterial and their low cytotoxicity render them good candidates as drug delivery systems. Recently we investigated the potential use of this nanomaterial in the treatment of mitochondrial diseases. Coupling to CNTs a specific targeting peptide, we found a selective accumulation of the conjugates inside mitochondria. This approach paves the way for the development of more sophisticated systems combining CNTs with drugs against mitochondrial disorders.
