Mitochondrial Transfer & Tunneling Nanotubes (TNTs)

The World Mitochondria Society (WMS) is spearheading a global multidisciplinary task force with a mission to drive forward the field of Engineering Enhanced Mitochondrial Transfer.

Objective

This project is anchored in the vision of engineering cells or mitochondria to bolster their mitochondrial transfer capability, specifically focusing on techniques to induce the formation of Tunneling Nanotubes (TNTs) or create mitochondria that are optimized for transfer.

Our ambition is to unlock the regenerative potential of mitochondrial transfer in enhancing cellular function, promoting tissue repair, and offering novel solutions in the battle against various diseases.

We're reaching out to international researchers and teams, who are involved or have an interest in this sphere, to contribute to this pioneering project.

If your team, institution, or you are engaged in, or are interested in the development of methods associated with mitochondrial transfer, we would be thrilled to learn about your work. We're especially interested in hearing about:

1- Initiatives aimed at inducing or manipulating the formation of TNTs.

2- Work focused on engineering mitochondria that are primed for transfer.

3- Studies related to the integration of transferred mitochondria into recipient cells.
